Juneteenth is the annual holiday celebrating the official end of slavery in the United States. Though Abraham Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, it wasn't until after the Civil War was over that the proclamation would be observed by Southern states. On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the emancipation of all remaining enslaved populations.
